Subjunctive

 

• 조언하는 류의 동사는 that절에 s/o이 '하는 게 좋다'는 should의 의미가 포함된 것으로 보고 should를 생략하여 동사원형으로 씀
• subjunctive 동사 + that + s/o + V(원형)
• subjunctive 현재시제에서는 부정이 앞에 있더라도 that절 이하에 있는 뜻으로 받아들임
• s/o에게 조언하는 것이 아니라 일반적인 말인 경우에는 subjunctive 동사 + 동명사

(1) recommend

• 경험에 의한 추천

• He recommend that we not stay there.

 

(2) suggest

• 어느상황에서나 제안할때. 많이 쓰임 (=I think you should ~)

• We don't suggest that he take up a sport.

 

(3) propose

• 회의 등에서 어떤 계획 잡았을때(제안할 때)

• I propose that we let them go.

 

(4) advise

• 충고. 어떤 문제를 해결하는 아이디어를 주는 경우

• I advise that you not be late.

 

(5) insist

• 주어가 자기 의견을 안버릴거라고 고집부리는 느낌

• <1형식> 본인이 하겠다고 고집부릴때: insist on -ing

• <3형식> 주장하다: She insisted she was right.

• <subjunctive> He insists that we stay for dinner.

 

(6) demand

• 반드시 s/o이 뭐 해야 한다고 화가 난 상태

• <3형식> demand sth.

• <subjunctive> The people demand that we lower the tax.

 

(7) require

• <3형식> need와 같은 의미, 좀더 고급스러운 어휘

• <subjunctve> 규칙/법/과정(주어)을 따르면~

•                    The bible requires that we go to church.

 

(8) request

• 정중하게 부탁하는 느낌

• <3형식> = ask for 목적어

• <subjunctive> The students request that we not make the test hard.

(9) ask

• ask 물어보다, ask for 요청하다

• <subjunctive> They asked that we stay here. = The asked us to stay here. (ECM이 더 흔하게 쓰임)
