Copula verb

  • 주어 + copular verb + adj.보어 (2형식)
  • 오감으로 무언가 판단함. "~같다"

(1) taste

  • <copula > This coke tastes flat.
  • <vt. 상태> I taste chicken. (주어가 먹어보니 ~ 맛이 나다)
  • <vt. 행동> Did you taste the meat? (주어가 ~ 맛을 보다)
  • <copula like> It tastes like chicken. ㅡ 주어한테서 ~같은 맛이 나다

 

(2) feel

  • <copula > Doesn't this cell phone feel light? ㅡ ①주어가 촉감으로 판단
  •                The air feels cold today.
  • <vt. 행동> Did you feel this blanket? (주어가 만져서 촉감을 느낌)
  • <cf. touch/lay a finger on N> 실제로 손을 대는 행동
  • <copula > I don't feel too good. ("나 몸 너무 안좋아.") ㅡ ②주어가 신체감(육체적)/감정(정신적) 느낌, 진행형 시제 가능
  •                I feel really bad. ("진짜 미안해.")
  • <vt. 상태/행동> Do you feel the excitement? (주어가 육체적/정신적으로 느낌)
  • <copula like> I feel like a hamburger. ㅡ ①주어가 ~가 땡기다
  •                    Your hand feels like sandpaper. ㅡ ② 주어가 ~같은 느낌이다
  • <가주어진주어> It feels nice to get a massage. (to-v하는 것이 adj.한 느낌이다)

 

(3) smell

  • <vi.       > Your breath smells. (주어에게서 냄새/악취가 나다)
  • <copula > Is it just me or does it smell rotten? ("나만 ~한거야?")
  •                Something smells fishy.
  • <vt. 상태> I smell flowers. (주어가 맡아보니 ~냄새가 난다)
  •                He doesn't like you. I smell it. ("왠지 그런 것 같아.")
  • <vt. 행동> Don't you smell something wierd in here? (주어가 ~냄새를 맡다)
  • <copula like> Your fart smells like rotten eggs. ㅡ 주어한테서 ~같은 냄새가 나다
  • <(It) smells like + S + V> It smells like you haven't taken a shower in a week. (~인 것 같은 냄새가 나다)

 

(4) sound

  • <vi.       > My alarm didn't sound this morning. (주어의 소리가 나다)
  • <copula > You sound worried. 
  •                How does a burger sound? (제안) 
  • <vt.       > He sounded the alarm. (주어가 ~을 울리다)
  • <copula like> You sound like my mother. ㅡ 주어가 ~처럼 들리다
  • <(It) sounds like S + V> Sounds like she needs some space. (~인 것처럼 들린다)
  •                                 Sounds like they're not going to come. (안 올건가봐, I guess처럼 쓰임)

 

(5) look

  • <vi.      > What are you looking at? (보다)
  • <copula> Steve looks young for his age
  •               You're looking good. ㅡ 진행형 시제 가능 
  • <copula like> Your son looks just like you. (주어가 ~처럼 생기다)
  • <(It) looks like S + V> It looks like he's in his twenties. (~인 것처럼 보이다)
  •                               Looks like she isn't going to forgive you. (용서 안해줄 건가봐)

 

(6) seem

  • <copula> Something doesn't seem right. ㅡ 다른 사람이 보기에 느껴지는 주어의 분위기 ("뭔가 맞지 않는 것 같아.")
  •               It doesn't seem right I'm getting married next week. ("실감이 안나")
  • <copula like> You seem like yourself. ㅡ 주어한테서 ~같은 분위기가 들다
  • <(It) seems like S + V> It doesn't seem like you care about me. (~인 것 같은 분위기가 들다)
